Climax
This climax was an inspirational part. Anna finally was able to walk by herself. She followed Jenny's gracious advice and began a new life. It was hard at the beginning because everyone stared at her and talked behind her back. She let that go and realized that you can't just let your life end. "Don't be an Eeyore be a Tigger" - Mr. Schmidt. That quote relates to Anna because she doesn't let people bring her down. Also, she has a dream to do karate again and show everybody that doubted her. She knows with her neck, arthritis, and walking stick that there is a slim chance she will get back in the ring. This walking scene was major because it showed no matter how much you doubt yourself to never, ever, give up.
Conflicts
Some conflicts that Anna had to face were losing friends, people doubting her, everyday things turned into struggles, and no longer being independent. She lost Caroline, one of her lifelong friends since 7 years of age. Anna was devastated when Caroline didn't come to visit anymore. She felt like she lost a member of her family. Since the crash, people have always doubted her. She can't go into a public place without people staring at her and when she tries to share her dreams people simply say that they can't happen anymore. She tries to prove them wrong but, she knows it's true. Anna can't even get out of bed without her mom helping her at the beginning. She hates not being able to serve herself. She feels like a baby, and an epic failure. Anna is sick and tired of people judging her.
Resolution
Anna now realizes that her life is no longer the same. She was willing to lose her old life, full of precious memories, and start as fresh as possible. She starts her new life with making new friends, like Luke. Luke taught Anna many lessons that inspired her to not be depressed and, when ever Anna sees Luke she feels that all her troubles are gone. Although, Anna still depends on Jenny to be her best friend, since she was the one who convinced her to start a new life and without her Anna would still be miserable, and not have any new goals to reach. Anna also burned her punching bag, knowing that she can never be able to use it. In fact, to her it was a symbol of karate, a dream she can no longer pursue. However, Anna knows that this is the best thing to do, since all of her dreams are now imaginations and if she tries doing them again she knows there will be consequences that may physically and mentally hurt her. Now she is officially moved on and is blissful with the outcome of her new life.
Anna's Poem of FeelingsI am
peeling like an onion- decaying slimy layers, hiding blackened mush inside. I am opening like a babushka- the painted dolls are broken; there's no baby left inside. I am unwrapping like a present- the paper's torn and crumpled; the gift's stolen from inside. -Anna (pg.120) |
Anna's Improved Poem of FeelingsI am
peeling like an onion, shedding papery protection, and superficial skin- tearing, skinning, ripping off the layers- the firm and curving flesh of what onions used to be- Peeling onions make me cry. Shrinking down to nothing, my shells are disappearing and there's nowhere left to hide. But under all the layers -a tiny green shoot sprouting- I'm growing from inside. - Anna (pg.166) |
